FBI Issues New Footage in Charlie Kirk Shooting Investigation Amid Nationwide Manhunt
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released new video footage of the person of interest in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, intensifying efforts to capture the suspect amid an urgent plea for public assistance.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah, where he was participating in “The American Comeback Tour.” The shooting took place while Kirk was engaging with students in a “Prove Me Wrong” debate, a format inviting students to challenge his political and cultural views.
The FBI’s Salt Lake City field office released clear images depicting the suspect wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, and notably a black long-sleeved shirt emblazoned with an American flag and an eagle with the words “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.” These details were highlighted by Utah Governor Spencer Cox during a Thursday news conference alongside FBI Director Kash Patel.
The suspect is believed to be college-aged, and law enforcement agencies are working relentlessly around the clock to track down the individual responsible. Recognizing the gravity of the case, the FBI announced a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Significantly, the FBI reported recovery of what is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting—a high-powered bolt-action rifle—found in a wooded area near the UVU campus, as stated by FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls.
Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is moving rapidly with evolving developments. A previously scheduled press briefing on Thursday was postponed to accommodate these developments. Law enforcement officials continue to search residential buildings around the university campus in their manhunt, underscoring the urgency to prevent any further danger and bring justice for Kirk.
The attack has drawn swift condemnation from political leaders nationwide, including former President Donald Trump, who expressed condolences and praised Kirk’s influence on America’s youth. Kirk’s death has also ignited widespread concern about political violence on college campuses and beyond.
Two individuals initially detained in connection with the incident have since been released after authorities found no ties to the shooting. The FBI and local police are cautioning the public against misinformation circulating on social media and are encouraging anyone with relevant information, no matter how minor, to come forward immediately.
This tragic event has deeply shaken the community, with police and federal investigators working in coordination, including forensic analyses being processed at state and federal labs to gather vital evidence.
Security video shows the suspect descending from the building shortly after the shooting. Officials stress that the public’s cooperation is crucial in rapidly resolving this case, adding that tips can be submitted anonymously to the FBI.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities firmly committed to apprehending the suspect to ensure safety on college campuses and uphold justice for Charlie Kirk.
