Four Wounded In Shooting At Concord, North Carolina Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Concord, North Carolina – A festive Christmas tree lighting ceremony in downtown Concord turned into a scene of chaos and fear Friday night after gunfire erupted, leaving four people wounded, authorities confirmed.

The shooting occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on November 21, 2025, during the city’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Union Street S near the intersection with Corban Avenue. The event, which typically draws thousands of attendees, was abruptly canceled following the incident.

According to Concord Police, four individuals were shot and transported to local hospitals. Three victims remain in critical condition, while one is listed in stable condition. Emergency personnel, including Concord Fire and Cabarrus County EMS, were already present at the event and responded immediately, providing medical aid and assisting with evacuations.

Witnesses described a scene of panic as attendees fled the area after hearing shots. Video footage from the scene shows people running in all directions, with some abandoning personal belongings, including strollers, in their haste to escape.

“It was a very chaotic scene,” said Siobhan Riley, a reporter for WCNC Charlotte, who was live at the event. “People were very scared. You could see the fear in their eyes.”

Police have launched a full investigation into the shooting. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses in an effort to identify the shooter or shooters. Authorities are urging anyone with information or video or photo evidence from the event to contact the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5027 or submit evidence via the city’s online portal.

City officials have advised residents to avoid the area and for drivers to seek alternate routes while the investigation continues. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday morning.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is one of Concord’s largest annual events, bringing together families and community members for holiday festivities. The incident has left the community shaken, with many expressing shock and sadness over the violence that disrupted what should have been a joyful occasion.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time,” said a city spokesperson. “We are grateful for the swift response of our first responders and the cooperation of the community as we work to bring answers and justice.”

As the investigation unfolds, Concord residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
