Officer Killed, Suspect Dead in Shooting Near CDC and Emory University in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA – A tragic shooting incident unfolded Friday afternoon near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters and Emory University’s Atlanta campus, resulting in the death of a DeKalb County police officer and the suspect.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, an active shooter opened fire in the area, shattering multiple windows of the CDC headquarters. Responding to the call, Officer David Rose of DeKalb County was fatally shot. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead later that evening.
The suspect was later found deceased from a gunshot wound, which authorities believe may have been self-inflicted. No civilians were harmed during the shooting, though four CDC employees were hospitalized due to stress and anxiety, with no gunshot injuries reported.
