Sean McDermott Voices Concern Over Josh Allen Taking Too Many Hits in Bills’ Recent Loss
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott expressed serious concerns about the excessive physical hits his quarterback, Josh Allen, has endured during recent games, particularly following their 23-19 loss to the Houston Texans on November 20, 2025.
In the game against the Texans, Josh Allen was sacked a career-high eight times and hit an additional four times, a total of 12 hits that significantly affected both his performance and the overall offensive output of the Bills.
Allen ended the game throwing for 253 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns, a sharp contrast to the prior week where he accounted for six touchdowns in a win over Tampa Bay.
“When they hit our quarterback 12 times, I don’t like that,” McDermott said after the game. “I don’t like that stat at all. It’s just not a healthy way to play and it’s not a good way to keep our quarterback healthy for the rest of the season. We’ve got to play better.”
The repeated pressure and hits on Allen not only affected his statistics but also the team’s chances at winning. In the final seconds, Allen threw an interception inside the Houston 10-yard line, sealing a Bills loss that had been closely contested throughout.
The defensive pressure applied by the Texans was led by Will Anderson Jr., who recorded 2 1/2 sacks. His second sack was especially notable, as Allen escaped an initial takedown only to be chased down and brought down for an 18-yard loss.
Allen lost a total of 70 yards on the eight sacks during the game. Despite these challenges, the Bills’ defense also made critical plays to keep Buffalo in the game.
McDermott also touched on team discipline issues, noting that wide receiver Keon Coleman remained sidelined due to team-imposed consequences after arriving late to meetings. Coleman has been a healthy scratch for two consecutive games as McDermott emphasized taking “one day at a time” regarding lineup decisions.
Looking ahead, McDermott and the Bills organization face the pressing task of protecting their star quarterback better to sustain him through the demanding NFL season. The health and effectiveness of Josh Allen remain pivotal to Buffalo’s aspirations of success this year.
