Human Remains Found in Search for Missing Philadelphia Woman
Philadelphia police have discovered human remains believed to be those of 23-year-old Kada Scott, who vanished approximately two weeks ago. The remains were located on Saturday in a wooded area behind an abandoned school, following an anonymous tip that led investigators back to a previously searched site.
Deputy Commissioner John Stanford addressed the media at a news conference, confirming the recovery of the remains but stopped short of definitively identifying them as Scott’s. The remains were found in a shallow grave and appear to be those of a woman who had been deceased for several days. Final confirmation awaits forensic analysis by the medical examiner’s office.
“We are not going to confirm, at this point, that it is Kada Scott because that has to be done by the medical examiner’s office,” Stanford said. Investigators are maintaining close communication with Scott’s family but are withholding further details due to the ongoing investigation.
Details Surrounding the Case and Suspect
Kada Scott, employed at a nursing home, went missing in early October. Her disappearance has raised concerns over legal and justice system responses as Keon King, 21, has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, stalking, and additional offenses related to Scott’s case.
King was previously charged in a similar case earlier this year but was released on bail. In this case, his bail has been set at $2.5 million. He remains in custody with a preliminary hearing scheduled for next month. His defense attorney has not commented on the matter.
Police Search Efforts and Evidence Found
During the renewed search prompted by the tip, police found belongings believed to belong to Scott, including a phone case, wallet, and glasses, near the site of the remains. The area, a heavily wooded plot behind the now-abandoned DHHS middle school in East Germantown, was combed thoroughly by Lewis and Germantown police officers.
The Philadelphia Police Department has not released updates following the initial announcement. Efforts continue to determine the identity of the remains and uncover further evidence that could shed light on the circumstances of Scott’s disappearance and suspected crimes.
This case continues to evoke discussions about bail policies and the handling of repeat offenders in the city’s criminal justice system, highlighting complexities in balancing public safety and legal procedures.
